In his article titled ‘Ethics and Power’, Mr. Jethmalani has tried to clear the mist from the badly reported Vaidik case of meeting Hafid Saeed in Pakistan. Few of the congress members started to comment on this news, realizing much later that some other congress MP’s had accompanied Vaidik in the seminar in Pakistan. The reporters of the scam starved media and drying up of the ‘breaking news’ after the formation of the new Government and a silent ban on covering AAP by a dozen of news channels (IBN7 and Reliance owned other channels) caught on to the Vaidik case and blew it out of proportion to the extent of misrepresenting the whole case.
There are bigger issues that need reporting and coverage but they have been put under cold storage may be until the next election campaign. Though the Vaidik incident seems to be utterly tame as compared to the much graver and heinous black money muddle no reporting is being done on it ever since the formation of the new NDA Government.
Transparency International through its Indian chapter headed by retired Admiral R.A Tahiliani publicly urged the Government of India in 2008 to take necessary steps to seek the data (of 1400 account holders in Liechtenstein’s LGT Bank) that the German government had offered free of charge. The offer was too good to refuse, but sadly, the leaders of opposition also chose to remain silent. During the 2014 election time a lot of noise was being made by Mr. Modi, Mr. Ram Dev and numerous others about bringing back the black money in the country but unfortunately not even a single move or statement has been made on the same till now. Why is Media silent about this grave issue? Does this silence a reflection of crony capitalism dominating the news rooms of the fourth pillar of democracy?
Jethmalani in his article has reflected that whether things will in the new government. He has appealed to all the honest and good elements in Congress and other parties to give up apathy, fear and sycophancy and join him in search for the arch criminals and their accomplices.
As a responsible citizen I am in full consensus with the concerns of Shri Jethmalani. More stalwarts like him need to speak up and wage a patriotic and holy war for the sake of our country.
